UNDER ABBE’S LEADERSHIP THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY WOMEN AND GIRLS INITIATIVE

As Executive Director of Los Angeles County’s groundbreaking Women and Girls Initiative Abbe played a key role in developing a countywide Gender Impact Assessment, conducting two employee climate surveys to understand the needs and ensure equity for County employees. Produced an award winning final report that outlines the successes of the initiative and also provided a road map for next steps.  Her leadership was instrumental in having County directors and managers learn how to use a gender lens in all their decision making.

UNDER ABBE’S LEADERSHIP THE SABAN FREE CLINIC

As CO-CEO of The Saban Free Clinic (now The Saban Community Clinic) Abbe played a massive role in taking the annual budget from $6 million to a $16 million. This included opening two new clinics and building a $22 million endowment. In addition, she managed a staff of 140 employees and over 300 volunteers. The Saban Free Clinic provided over 21,000 people annually with dental, medical and mental health services.

UNDER ABBE’S LEADERSHIP THE TREVOR PROJECT
  • Grew to national prominence and recognized leadership in the field of LBGTQ youth suicide prevention.
  • Expanded their budget over 100% and significantly expanded the staff and volunteer pool.
  • Launched the organization’s first research and evaluation project, which has quantitatively proven that Trevor is effective at saving young lives.
  • Added Trevor’s digital programs, Chat and Text, to meet youth where they are.
  • Built a new platform for TrevorSpace to help prevent suicide among youth around the world.
  • Expanded Trevor’s public policy work and successfully
    sponsored legislation in CA and Washington, DC.
  • Helped make Trevor the go-to place for anyone discussing LGBTQ youth and suicide.

UNDER ABBE’S LEADERSHIP THE CITY OF WEST HOLLYWOOD

During Abbe’s tenure as Mayor and Council Member the City of West Hollywood adopted some of the nations’ most progressive public policies in the areas of social justice, environment, public safety, economic development and housing. She sponsored ground breaking legislation to ban the sale of Saturday Night Specials; declared West Hollywood the 1st Pro Choice city in the nation; developed a Women’s Leadership Conference; included affordable housing in market rate developments; mandated green building design; implemented a Housing First approach to reducing homelessness; mandated gender neutral restrooms; adopted a Lesbian Bill of Health Rights; funded arts in local grammar schools to name a few.
